Ortsgruppenleiter White Double Breasted Tunic # 500
Ortsgruppenleiter White Double Breasted Tunic # 500
In the political structure of the Third Reich, power descended from
Hitler to the Reichs level (National), then to the Gau (Regional), on
to the Kreis (District), and finally down to the Orts (Local) level.
At the head of the Orts level stood the Ortsgruppenleiter, or Local
Group Leader, who was appointed to his position by his Gauleiter upon
the nomination of his Kreisleiter. The Ortsgruppenleiter position was
an unpaid position, even though he was responsible for the small town
or community and the Party members he represented. These men were
expected to know each of the Party members personally, and to 'keep
the pulse' of his constituency.
Shown here is perhaps one of the rarest, most unique Political Leader
tunics to exist anywhere in any collection. It is a double breasted
tunic in white for wear during the months of the summer season. Any
Political double breasted tunic is rare, any Political tunic in white
is extremely rare, and the fact that this tunic is for an
Ortsgruppenleiter means that this was in all likelihood a one of
kind piece even during the era. It is almost impossible to convey
just exactly how special a tunic this really is.
The Organization Book of the NSDAP prescribes that only the Local
Group Leader (Ortsgruppenleiter) may wear the Walking Out Dress at
the local level. This tunic is in the highly desirable 4th Pattern,
with the ornate Ortsgruppenleiter armband and decorative collar tabs
that collectors covet so much. The collar tabs, with their crisp
eagle and swastikas in the position of Haupt-Gemeinschaftsleiter, are
correctly representing the brown felt background and light blue
piping of the Orts level. The armband is correct in every way, piped
on top and bottom in the light blue of the Orts regulation. Per
regulations, the collar is not piped.
A named tunic, (the name will be provided to the new owner), this
tunic also features an attractive private tailor label. Free of any
damage or staining, (save for one small moth nip to the armband) this
subject remains remarkably clean and untouched. The tunic is the
tunic on the cover of the Uniforms of the NSDAP book, and must be
considered the pinnacle of Political Leader collecting. This is truly
a once in a lifetime opportunity to acquire a double breasted tunic,
a white summer tunic, and a named piece of history, all in one
extraordinarily well preserved and aesthetically pleasing piece of
Third Reich antiquity.
