Karl Goetz medallion on the occasion of the beginning of the round the clock bombing by Anglo-American Air Force units n March 1943. During this and all of the following raids of the war, the cathedral escaped major damage. In May 1943 the R.A.F. bombed Cologne with 1000 planes.
The front shows a bomber dropping bombs near the cathedral and inscription along rim reads, "British - American bomber" / DOM. ZV. KOLN". The reverse shows family flees the bombing. "K.G." initials on the suitcase that the man holds.
