Karl Goetz medallion on the occasion of the beginning of the round the clock bombing by Anglo-American Air Force units n March 1943. During this and all of the following raids of the war, the cathedral escaped major damage. In May 1943 the R.A.F. bombed Cologne with 1000 planes.The front shows a bomber dropping bombs near the cathedral and inscription along rim reads, "British - American bomber" / DOM. ZV. KOLN".
