A superb large amber casket complete with red leatherette presentation case. The amber box is produced with slabs of Baltic amber arranged in almost a mosaic affect and very similar to the rare amber covered Mein Kampf books.The box is mounted with 800 silver marked coat of arms of Danzig with swastika and with silver title, DER GAULEITER FREIEN STADT DANZIG, and with a circular designs to each corner.The interior of the box features a metal plaque with makers name, DANZIG BERNSTEIN VEREIN, LANDE BRUCKE 21 F.S.DANZIG, these makers plaques are often seen on the more important amber art objects. The amber box is contained in its original red leatherette presentation box with matching Danzig coat of arms with swastika to lid, the interior base of the box is lined in black velvet, the interior lid is lined in fine quality white silk. Danzig and the Baltic coast was well know for it's production of precious amber art objects, the most famous being the fabulous amber room which was originally a gift from the German King in 1716 to the Russian Czar, the Germans removed the amber room from the former Czar's winter palace in St Petersburg in Russia in 1941/42 and it was brought back to Germany but it was subsequently lost in the last days of WW2. Albert Forster was born on 26.7.1902, he was a very early member of the NSDAP, he was promoted to the post of Gauleiter of Danzig in 1930 and held this post until 1945, he was a member of the Reichstag and also a member of the SS holding the rank of SS Obergrupenfuhrer. He was captured by the red army in 1945, handed over to the new Polish communist puppet government and eventually executed after show trial. Danzig was one of the main reason's for the outbreak of war in 1939, stemming from a dispute between Poland and Germany and Poland's access to the Danzig corridor and the Baltic coast, this eventually developed into World War Two.
