This is a fine quality manufacture and extremely well preserved German Cross in Silver (Deutsches Kreuz in Silber) Light Version by a desirable maker; with its trademark four hollow rivets on the reverse; double-overlaid sunburst pattern with eight points; the center with a black enameled rotated (mobile) swastika, with the enamels well preserved without chipping of any kind; within a stamped silvered circular wreath impressed with oak leaves, ribbons, and the introduction year “1941”; the inner and outer sides of the wreath feature thin red enameled rings with a silver core in the middle; the reverse plain but with a broad vertical pinback with a functional barrel hinge and a thick, slightly rounded catch; marked “20” for “C.F. Zimmermann, Pforzheim” on the reverse of the pin; measuring 63.02 mm (w) x 63.07 mm (h); weighing 45.0 grams; in unissued mint condition.

Case constructed of thick cardstock covered with a black leatherette paper; typical continuous gold line around upper lid and minimal abrasions to surface; interior lid covered in off white silk; lower tray with moderate wear to flocking; strong hinge and push button catch; measuring approximately 107.5mm x108.5mm x 27.6mm.

Originally from the Schloss Klessheim hoard, medal is still in cello, though cello is cracked.

Comes with a copy of the 4 page letter, written on "Der Führer" stationary from the Officer who liberated this to his wife, along with a copy of envelope and 2 images of him.
