Lt Schroeder was a pilot of a JU-88A-4 L1+CS. He was awarded his pilots badge 30-7-43 was assigned to Unit III/L.G.1.9 Staffel then assigned to 8 Staffel. He was stationed in Crete, and his Staffel was a reconnaissance/anti-Shipping unit. He went on a night mission from Crete to Bari off the coast of Italy 12-12-43. Never returned from their mission , and were determined as MIA. Ended up they were shot down off the coast of Sicily by flak, and all crew lost.

4-12-43 Schroeder was awarded the EK2 and Bronze Operational Flying Clasp. The 2 award entries were signed by German Cross and Knights Cross recipient Karl Peter’s. Plus, on page 23 it has another signature by Erich Baumgartl who won the German Cross, Knights Cross, and Honor Goblet with 3./KG-55 that was renamed 9./LG-1 Schroeders 1st unit. So 2 KC winner’s signatures. A precious piece of WW2 history!
