"The Party must continue to be as tough as it was during the conquest of power…The Party cannot drag dead weights with it, it can do nothing with the lukewarm. If there are any such amongst us, let them be expelled!†-Adolf Hitler
Despite the modern day portrayals of Nazi Germany, (and despite the bravado of Hitler himself), there was no inevitability during the struggle for national leadership. There were many dark days where the Nazi's faced defeat prior to the Assumption of Power, when it was politically and socially risky to be a Nazi Party member. Upon the Nazi victory, millions of members of German society suddenly started signing up to become a Party member, so much so that the Party itself declined new membership. There was also a disdain for the "Johnny-come-lately" and the Party membership identified and treated with contempt those that supported the Party only after they came to power. As Hitler himself pointed out on many occasions, he wanted only the most passionate 10% of the population to support him, as they were the ones who could really make a difference. He had no use for the lukewarm. And if they weren't there fighting in the early days, they were largely received as unwelcome for that lack of devotion.
The Nazi Party followed Hitler'ss lead, and Party members were vocal about their enthusiasm for the up and coming revolutionaries. Party members wanted to express their loyalty to the Party and its ideals, and there was no shortage of ways to do it, from NSDAP Party pins on your person, to flags on buildings and vehicles. Another such way one might express their devotion was to proclaim it right on the front door of their residences. Featured here are 2 enamel signs declaring the homeowner as a Party member, voter, and devotee. "Mit Uns" translates to "With Us"+ and when combined with the Party insignia leave no doubt as to which Party could count on their vote. Highly collectible in todays market for its propaganda characteristics and quality construction, these are tremendously powerful statements for one's historically-oriented study or home library.
These signs are known to be period produced and given the repercussions for being a passionate supporter upon the close of the war, Party members no doubt went to great lengths to hide, discard, or destroy their examples. Given that reality, period examples are relatively uncommon. They are known to exist in 2 sizes, the larger being 8cm x 12cm, the smaller being 4cm x 6cm. They are also maker marked, as the pictures below illustrate. Unique and historically interesting.
