Dr Robert Ley DAF Vehicle Pennant # 444
Dr Robert Ley, Reichsleiter, and Leiter der Deutsche Arbeitsfront (Reichs leader, and Leader of the German Labor Front/ DAF)
Ley was a Party member from the early days, becoming Gaulieter in 1925, and becoming Reichslieter in 1931. He was fanatically loyal to Hitler, ensuring his good standing and power. This dedication was rewarded with position and title, among them the position of Leader of the German Labor Front. This department supplanted the traditional labor unions, and was responsible for, among other things,
the 'Strength Thru Joy' projects that made vacation travel for its members affordable, and helped bring the popular Volkswagen automobile to the fruition. Found guilty at Nuremburg, Ley cheated his captors of justice, and strangled himself to death in his cell. (Of note, it was Ley who was most responsible for the evolution of the Party Leaders uniform evolution.)
As with most important positions, each level had its own exclusive markings or seals, and the Head of the DAF was no exception. This vehicle pennant identified the occupant as the Leader of the DAF, Robert Ley. (He was the only leader of the organization.) Personality items, especially for the most powerful of the Reich rarely are offered, making this a unique piece, enhanced by its condition and completeness.
